Brett McCormick scores his best finish of the season on Sunday
From a release issued by Michael Jordan Motorsports - August 17.

ALTON, VA (August 15, 2010) - Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM) holds onto third place in the championship points race after completing round eight of the 2010 AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike Championship held at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, VA this weekend. Brett McCormick, Aaron Yates' replacement rider, raced to sixth place on Saturday and a season's best fourth place on Sunday. National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Jake Zemke had a tough weekend, scoring eighth place finishes both Saturday and Sunday. Aaron Yates attempted to make his comeback this weekend from the injury he sustained early in the season. Yates practiced Friday and qualified eighth on Saturday but was not quite physically ready to compete.

On Saturday, Michael Jordan Motorsports' McCormick started in eleventh and made his way up to sixth place by the second lap. Beyond a bit of a battle during the latter stage of the race, McCormick was able to maintain his position, finishing sixth. On Sunday, McCormick's good start quickly put him up into fourth position. He was able to hold that position, finishing in a season's best fourth place. McCormick currently sits in ninth place in the championship points race.

"That is now my best finish," McCormick said. "So I'm really happy, super-pumped with the team this weekend. They worked hard, and keeping me around when Aaron was here obviously worked out in the end because he wasn't able to ride, so it was really cool. (It was) my first time here and doing pretty fast laps, and the last race of the day I was super consistent. I was able to do them the whole day and I'm pretty happy with my finish."

On Saturday, National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Zemke started in tenth and ran as high as fourth early in the race. Zemke ran in fifth for thirteen laps before falling back to finish in eighth place. Sunday played out much the same, as Zemke ran as high as third, but eventually slipped to another eighth place finish. Zemke still remains third in the championship points race heading into the next event at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

"These last couple races since Ohio we've been struggling quite a bit," Zemke said. "So we definitely need to get back on track and finish up the season with a bang. I was pretty confident that we had some things figured out coming in here this weekend and things just seemed to get worse. We're looking for some rebound here and to get to New Jersey and Barber and finish off the season strong."

During the weekend, Zemke's National Guard Suzuki GSX-R1000 was proudly sporting the state patch of the Virginia Army National Guard. The corresponding National Guard state patches will be placed on Zemke's Suzuki for the remainder of the 2010 season.

Look for the 2010 Michael Jordan Motorsports team at their next event at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ on September 3-5, 2010.

Michael Jordan Motorsports Holds onto third place in championship points at Laguna Seca
From a release issued by Michael Jordan Motorsports - July 25.

MONTEREY, CA (July 25, 2010) - Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM) holds onto third place in the championship points race after completing round seven of the 2010 AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike Championship held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA this weekend. National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Jake Zemke scored a sixth place finish and Aaron Yates' replacement rider, 18-year-old Brett McCormick, finished eighth.

National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Zemke started in seventh and quickly worked his way up to fifth place. Zemke ran in fifth for ten laps before falling back to sixth place, which is where he finished. Zemke remains a solid third in the championship points race heading into the next event at Virginia International Raceway (VIR).

"The boys did a good job," Zemke said. "We've been struggling since we got here, but we definitely got the bike a lot better for the race. It was good enough to be close to the guys in the beginning. Maybe not the top guys, but that group from third to fifth. We should have had a little better shot at that. I got by Larry (Pegram) but by then I'd pretty much used up everything I had and the tires had gone off pretty bad. He was able to get back by me and I was having a few issues. We brought it home, but it's been a frustrating two weeks and it's definitely not where we want to be. We should be up at the front racing with those guys - not back where we are at."

Michael Jordan Motorsports' Brett McCormick started in tenth and made his way up to eighth place in three laps. McCormick maintained his eighth place position until lap 16, when he engaged in a battle that put him back to tenth before fighting back to an eighth place finish. McCormick sits in ninth place in the championship points race.

During the weekend, Jake Zemke's National Guard Suzuki GSX-R1000 was once again proudly sporting the state patch of the California National Guard's largest combat brigade, the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The corresponding National Guard state patches will be placed on Zemke's Suzuki for the remainder of the 2010 season.

Look for the 2010 Michael Jordan Motorsports team at their next event at VIR in Alton, VA on August 13-15, 2010.

MICHAEL JORDAN MOTORSPORTS' McCORMICK SCORES TOP FIVE AT MID-OHIO
19/7/2010
From a release issued by Michael Jordan Motorsports - July 18.

LEXINGTON, OH (July 18, 2010) - Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM) maintains third place in the championship points race after completing races eleven and twelve of the 2010 AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike Championship held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH this weekend. National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Jake Zemke scored a pair of sixth place finishes and 18-year-old Brett McCormick, Aaron Yates' replacement rider, had his best result of the season with a seventh place finish on Saturday and a fifth on Sunday.

On Saturday, National Guard Jordan Suzuki's Zemke ran as high as fourth before dropping back and eventually finishing sixth. Sunday, Zemke ran in fifth place until the last lap when he was passed by his Michael Jordan Motorsports teammate, McCormick. Zemke is a solid third in the championship points race heading into next weekend's event at Laguna Seca.

"Yesterday we killed both tires and today we killed one," Zemke said. "By halfway today, the front tire was completely done and it was all I could do to hang on 'til the end. It was definitely a frustrating weekend. Coming to Ohio, it's always been a good track for me. We were looking for good things here and we just never quite got there with the bike this weekend. So we'll come out with something a little different for Laguna and regroup and move on."

On Sunday, McCormick started in seventh and quickly worked his way up to sixth just behind Zemke. McCormick made the pass on Zemke on the last lap, which gave him his first top five finish of the year. Saturday, Michael Jordan Motorsports' McCormick ran as high as sixth before settling in for a seventh place finish. McCormick sits in ninth place in the championship points race.

"I guess I got a seventh in Fontana and then a seventh yesterday," McCormick said. "So this was the best finish when nobody crashed, nobody in front of me. I'm definitely really happy. I had a battle with Jake (Zemke) there and that was a lot of fun. And it was finally nice to go up there and race with somebody that's closer to that top five and cool to learn stuff from these guys, for sure."

During the weekend, Jake Zemke's National Guard Suzuki GSX-R1000 was proudly sporting the state patch of the Ohio National Guard's 19th Special Forces Group, whose primary mission is to train and assist foreign indigenous forces in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. The corresponding National Guard state patches will be placed on Zemke's Suzuki for the remainder of the 2010 season.

Look for the 2010 Michael Jordan Motorsports team at their next event at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA on July 23-25, 2010.

MCCORMICK TO FILL IN FOR INJURED YATES AT JORDAN SUZUKI
9/4/2010
Team Suzuki Press Office - April 9.

Michael Jordan Motorsports announced this morning that 18-year-old Canadian Superbike rider Brett McCormick will fill in for the Jordan Suzuki rider Aaron Yates as he recovers from injury.

Yates - who underwent surgery on March 28th after breaking his leg in that morning's practice prior to race four of the 2010 AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike Championship at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California - is expected to be out of action for six-to-twelve weeks.

McCormick, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada, was the 2009 runner-up in the Canadian Superbike Championship. He raced the first two AMA Superbike events of 2010 for Celtic Racing, scoring a seventh and an eighth-placed finish in the first four races and currently sits 10th in the series.

The team evaluated McCormick during last week's test at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Both Celtic Racing and McCormick have close ties with Michael Jordan Motorsports and that, combined with his recent experience on the Suzuki GSX-R1000, made him a good candidate to fill in for the injured Yates. Celtic Racing team owner Barry Gilsenan is very supportive of the decision and is glad to see Brett get the opportunity.

There's more of Brett McCormick in this video interview, shot at the Sonoma test:

Celtic Racing Reports On McCormick's AMA Superbike Round With The Team
March 31, 2010
CELTIC RACING'S BRETT MCCORMICK TAKES STRONG SEVENTH PLACE FINISH AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY

NYACK, NY - The Celtic Racing Orient Express team partnered with young Canadian star Brett McCormick over the March 26th weekend at Auto Club Speedway for Round 2 of the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike Championship. Though no stranger to Superbike competition or the indomitable 2009 GSX-R 1000 it was essential for McCormick to maximize all practice sessions on the unfamiliar track to ensure competitive pace come Saturday and Sunday's 21-lap feature races.

The New York-based team's strategy would utilize Friday's practice and qualifying sessions getting McCormick comfortable on the Celtic Racing LeoVince powered GSX-R and allowing McCormick to learn the 21-turn 2.36 mile track. McCormick put in 27 laps during Practice 1 posting a best time of 1:28.867, good for 17th place while testing a bevy of settings on the #7 Celtic machine. The team continued to test various setup configurations during Qualifying 1 late Friday afternoon seeing a good improvement with McCormick dropping 1.5 second (1:27.275) and posting the 14th fastest time during the 13-lap session.

Confident in their ability to continue moving upwards the Celtic Racing team looked forward to Saturday morning's Qualifying 2 to set the final grid positions and better their 4th row starting position. Unfortunately for the team however fierce Santa Ana winds pummeled the Speedway Saturday morning with gusts up to 60mph forcing AMA Pro Racing to suspend Qualifying 2 due to unsafe race conditions. Race 1 was pushed back further into the afternoon to give the blustering winds a chance to die down and the riders were given a short 10-minute warm-up session immediately prior to the race to familiarize themselves with track conditions.

With only a few short laps to test new settings the team headed into Race 1 unsure of how the latest configuration of the GSX-R 1000 would play out over the course of the race. Grid positions were set based on Friday's Qualifying times and McCormick would be starting both races from the 4th row, a daunting position for any rider. As the race progressed McCormick soon found the gamble in setup wasn't paying off as the Canadian rider struggled with the 190hp Suzuki over the length of the race. Showing incredible determination however McCormick dropped another .2 seconds off his previous best lap to set a time of 1:27.088 and moved up two positions during the race to finish just outside the top 10 in 12th place.

Armed with valuable data accrued during Race 1 the Celtic Racing Orient Express team went to work Saturday night to improve the #7 Armour Bodies-clad Suzuki and make a push for the Top 10 in Race 2. With a short warmup Sunday morning to try out the latest changes McCormick entered Race 2 feeling much more comfortable on both the track and the Celtic bike and was eager to get Race 2 underway. With Saturday's winds but a distant memory Race 2 took place beneath beautiful Californian skies and McCormick was immediately challenging inside the Top 10. Rocketing from his 14th place starting position McCormick soon found himself in a battle with AMA veterans Ben Bostrom and Chris Ulrich, a battle that would extend throughout the entire contest. At races end the Fontana rookie would find himself in 7th position, his best AMA Pro Racing American Superbike finish to date. Even more impressively McCormick's best laptime during the race (1:25.427) would be less than a second off the best lap of either race (Blake Young = 1:24.428) and McCormick's closest finish to the front in his fledgling AMA career.

Brett McCormick - #7 Celtic Racing
"That was certainly a wild weekend." said McCormick "We knew coming in that it would take a bit of time to get everything going since it was a new track and my first race with the Celtic team. We were bummed to lose out on Saturday's practice but AMA made the right call since it was pretty bad out there with the wind. Anyhow we were off on setup during Race 1 and that made for a long race. I knew we could go faster in Race 2 and after some changes Sunday morning we did just that. It felt real good to finally get down to some laptimes I knew we were capable of. I had a good battle with Ben and Chris and to come out with my best AMA Superbike finish at the line is just icing on the cake. A big thanks to the Celtic Racing team for all the hard work and the opportunity to race hard this weekend. I can't wait to get back on the racetrack."

Brett McCormick now sits in 10th place overall in the 2010 American Superbike standings with 37 points. Celtic Racing Orient Express next takes to the track April 16th for Round 3 of the AMA Pro Racing Championship at Road Atlanta in Braselton Georgia. TK Racing/Picotte Racing 2010 Race Report for Daytona 200

After a long cold winter in Canada the team soldiered through a large snow storm to make their way down to Daytona for the 69th running of the Daytona 200. After some track time during the CCS/ASRA race weekend Wednesday afternoon, the team got down to business with practicing for both the American SuperBike class and the Daytona SportBike class which is what Brett would run in the prestigious Daytona 200 race under the lights Friday night. Although the team had the advantage of knowing the set up for Brett's 2009 Suzuki GSX-R's, the Dunlop tires were new which would completely change the way the bike would be set up.

The practice and pre-qualifying sessions went fairly well as Brett was able to firmly establish himself inside the top ten in both American SuperBike and Daytona SportBike classes. Qualifying for American SuperBike saw Brett unable to improve significantly on his lap times and he settled for 9th on the grid. Daytona SportBike qualifying was run at night under cool conditions and saw Brett comfortable with his bike and set up enabling him to set the 8th fastest time putting him in an excellent second row position for the start of the Daytona 200.

Thursdays American SuperBike race one saw Brett get a good start and come out in the first couple of laps in 6th place. Unable to stay on the pace of the front five racers, Brett found himself in a battle for 6th with Chris Ulrich and Taylor Knapp. Unfortunately, Brett's bike suffered a race ending mechanical failure on the sixth lap of the fifteen lap race. Thursday night saw the Picotte Racing Team working hard as they replace the motor in Brett's GSX-R 1000 and prepare his GSX-R 600 for the 200 mile race on Friday.

Fridays American SuperBike race two saw Brett get a 10th place start. By lap two Brett had moved up to 8th only to be pushed back to 9th when John Hopkins got by him a lap later. Brett was able to stay on the back of this nine rider freight train for several laps. John Hopkins then retired in front of Brett with a mechanical leaving Brett in 8th place but back far enough from the lead group to not be able to stay in the draft. At the half way point Brett was approximately seven seconds off the lead group but five seconds ahead of 9th place leaving him with an uneventful but very solid 8th place finish.

Under the lights at the start of the Daytona 200 Brett got a great start coming through the horseshoe in 4th place. Unfortunately a multi-rider crash brought out the red flag and a restart was in order. Off the restart Brett did not get quite as good a launch and came through the horseshoe in 7th place. A seven rider freight train at the front ensued with Brett passing Cory West in the chicane for 6th. Kevin Coghlan then took West's position at the rear of the seven rider freight train as they pulled away from the pack. A couple of laps later Brett was in 5th place when the draft sucked him in to the chicane much faster than he was expecting. Instead of trying to make the chicane and crashing, Brett stood the bike up and road through the chicane safely dropping back to 7th place. The mistake not only cost him a couple of positions but put him three seconds back of the lead group and out of the all important draft. With something to prove Brett dug deep and even without the benefit of the daft, set the fastest lap of the race for the next three consecutive laps. On the back of the lead pack Brett brought his GSX-R in for the first pit stop on lap eighteen. An awesome pit stop by the Picotte Racing Team saw Brett back on the track quickly. By this time the top seven lead group had all pulled in for their first pit stops meaning the group was now spread out. Josh Herrin and Dane Westby battled for the lead five seconds ahead of the Danny Eslick and Steve Rapp's battle for 3rd. Brett was in 5th place three seconds back of the 3rd place battle and about fifteen seconds ahead of Kevin Coghlan who was in 6th. On lap thirty-one just five laps before his second pit stop, Brett tucked the front end of his GSX-R crashing in the chicane. Unhurt Brett jumped to his bike only to find the front break line had tore off in the crash ending his outstanding run in his first Daytona 200.

Canadians invade United States

Following a 2009 season which saw 17 year old Brett "The Kid" McCormick dominate the Canadian Superbike series, crossing the finish line first in 5 of 7 races and setting the lap record at every track, the economic hardships that are hitting the motorcycle industry so hard see Suzuki Canada and Blackfoot Motosports unable to support Brett for the 2010 season. Having complete confidence in his abilities as one of the best superbike racers in North America, Brett will be putting his own money behind a serious attempt at the American Superbike title in the DMG/AMA series.

Backed by the same incredible Picotte Performance race team, Brett will race his 2009 Ohlins equipped GSX-R 1000 starting in two weeks time at the opening round in Daytona March 3-5th. Preparations are also underway to have Brett race in the prestigious Daytona 200 on his Ohlins equipped GSX-R 600.

Brett is looking forward to the great challenge of proving himself. "It's tough after a stellar year to not have a ride this year, but I guess at this point in my career it's time to prove myself on a bigger stage, and the States is obviously the place to do that. I know Pascal and the guys are a world class team, so I plan on running at the front!"

Pascal is equally excited to be on board, and feels Brett and the team have what it takes to be competitive at that next level. "Last season was really special, not only in what was achieved on the track, but the great bonding of the guys on the team. All the guys didn't hesitate in the chance to work together again this year. Once people see what we can accomplish hopefully the support will follow that allows Brett and the team to be successful in the DMG/AMA."

Team Release: McCORMICK FINISHES 2009 SEASON AS FASTEST MAN ON THE TRACK AND CLAIMS 2ND PLACE IN BOTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend at Shannonville Motorsports Park in Ontario, Canada, Team Suzuki Blackfoot Picotte Racing pulled together for the last round in 2009 to ensure they left no doubt in the eyes of Canadian fans that they are truly the fastest team to hit the pavement this season. After setting new lap records at every track in the Superbike series, these guys have earned their share of bragging rights and, despite their 2nd place finish in both championships, the team has put forth an exciting performance packed with suspense, surprise and proof of their ability.

To finish off the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike Championship, McCormick blew away his competition by finishing first with a 5.993 second lead over his season-long rival Jordan Szoke. "I got a good launch," McCormick says, "but I got stuck on the inside of the track on the first turn with nowhere to go so I had to slow down and ended up 4th into turn 2. But, within two laps I was able to take the lead and then it was all about checking out and getting in laps. It was an easy race."

In the Superbike race, McCormick was called for a jumpstart. On his second lap, his team informed him of the jumpstart via his pit board and McCormick was able to channel his frustration into pure determination. "In that race, I was third off the start and Kevin and I passed Jordan at the same time. I passed Kevin the next lap and checked out. I knew I had to win by more than 5 seconds and I didn't want to leave anything to chance so I stepped it up and finished the race with about an 11 second lead." Once the penalty was accounted for, the victory was a 6.121 second finish ahead of Szoke.

McCormick discloses, "It's disappointing to lose the championship but we've accomplished a lot this season by sweeping the races at Mirabel and Shuby and then winning everything here, plus other wins throughout the season. Even though we didn't win the title, I think we have proved that we are the fastest on the track, so that's what matters."

Team Manager Pascal Picotte says, "This weekend, we did exactly what we needed to do. Some people thought we needed to get a guy in between Brett and Jordan and I didn't feel it was the right thing to do. We would have had to spread ourselves thin and that wouldn't have been good for Brett. We focused just on him and we worked hard to make sure that we stayed on top all weekend. He's only 18 years old and for him to be the fastest guy in every session, it's very difficult. I just kept working with him to help him understand that the pressure doesn't really exist - you can't control the future. So we went out there and did our best and we accomplished two victories. If the championship had fallen to our favour that would have just been a bonus."

"Pascal has really helped me figure out the mental game," McCormick explains. "He's amazing with bike set-up and he taught me so much about racing. I wouldn't trade this year for anything. I have a lot to take away from these experiences and that's what really counts. All the people involved were just awesome - they are all really great people. And Pat (Chambers), he's an awesome guy to work with. We are a bunch of people with the same goal - to win races and it shined throughout the whole season. It was a really fun atmosphere, not always serious but everyone really buttoned down to business when they had to and it was a winning combination."

Picotte describes the 2009 as, "Fantastic. We made progress every single weekend. I wish there were a couple more races because there is no doubt that we could have taken home the title. We dominated right after Calabogie and we found the sweet spot for Brett and from there on we made his life a lot easier. We were able to communicate better and better and now I understand more about what he is looking for."

Picotte goes on to say, "Our team was flawless, we couldn't have asked for better guys. The race face was on but we were very relaxed and we had a good time. The chemistry was phenomenal. We have been really lucky to work with Suzuki, they have been great. As well, Pat Chambers has been really wonderful for us to work with. The economy was down and the budget was tight but Pat didn't give up on us. Thanks to Blackfoot Racing and Suzuki we were able to perform miracles this year."

Pat Chambers, Team Owner from Blackfoot Racing finishes by saying, "Unfortunately our success this weekend didn't result in the championship, but we know Brett did everything he could and we had a great year. We were very impressed with how much Brett improved constantly throughout the season. Every time he got on the motorcycle we saw his growth and he took his skill and ability to a level that was unmatched. Pascal certainly helped accelerate his development and the relationship was fruitful and very successful. We have an amazing team here with Suzuki, Blackfoot and Picotte Racing. These guys know how to make the team work - they are an energetic group who have fun while they work hard. They really know what they are doing."

And the outlook for 2010? "It's our full intention to continue moving forward with Suzuki and Brett McCormick in some capacity," states Chambers, "We'd like to come back and take care of our unfinished business."

Team Release: AMP RD6 Report, Team Suzuki Blackfoot Picotte Racing

Team Suzuki Blackfoot Picotte Racing aimed to win Round 6 in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia and that is exactly what they accomplished. The team's talent and experience resulted in a smooth execution of excellence as they proved to be the fastest team on the track each and every time their bikes hit the pavement all weekend long.

In the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike event, Brett McCormick got a 3rd place start. "I was rubbing elbows with Jordan right off the bat but I managed to get around him and Kevin on the first lap," he says. "Once I got ahead, I did everything I could to keep focused and manage my lead." Things couldn't have been better as McCormick was able to gain a 7.347 second lead and was given the Tirox Big Winner Award for the greatest margin of victory.

During Saturday's Superbike qualifier, McCormick had secured pole position and was presented with the Inside Motorcycles Pole Position Award. Off the start at Sunday's race, Jordan Szoke pulled ahead of McCormick, but once again, McCormick was able to secure his lead before the end of the first lap.

"Brett really stepped up his game," explains Team Manager Pascal Picotte. "He was very focused and determined to keep our chance alive for the championship. In Superbike, he made an aggressive move right at the start and managed his lead for the remainder of the race. I was very impressed. We had set up aggressive gearing so that in the corners he would be very close to the rev limiter in order to help him get up front. I asked him to save the bike and keep off the rev limiter once he had taken the lead and that is exactly what he did, which was just another example of Brett's ability as a rider. Everything turned out perfect. It was a great team effort - our race faces were on all weekend and it was just smiles and laughter under the tent. We were out on the track 12 times and 12 times we were the fastest."

"It's all about spending more time with the team and with Pascal as well as getting more seat time on the Suzuki bikes," McCormick discloses. "Each weekend we step it up a notch and each weekend we make it more difficult for the other guys to keep up with us."

"I am very happy and very proud," says Picotte. "We came into this race strong because of the additional time we had to prepare ourselves at the Regional last weekend. This weekend, all of my guys put an excellent effort together. Mike Fitzgerald from Ohlins gave us very good support throughout the weekend and the mechanics were fantastic. Plus, it was a nice bonus to receive the Brembo Tuners Award for having the highest measurement on the dyno. Our guys did a great job."

After the team's bittersweet experience at Mosport a few weeks ago, Pat Chambers Team Owner from Blackfoot Racing was delighted with the weekend results at Shubenacadie: "The race was excellent, great to hear that we took a clean sweep. It is obvious that this kid is determined to win and the team's determination shines at every race. No one here is interested in giving up, regardless of the hiccups we've experienced along the way. As a team, we know what we have to do and we are going continue aiming for the championship. So far, this is truly the most exciting Superbike series we've ever had in Canada."

To prepare for the final round of the 2009 season, Picotte reveals, "We simply have to work hard to make sure that everything is perfect. We cannot have any failures. We will look at the bikes piece by piece and make sure we have the best equipment to provide Brett with the greatest advantage possible."

McCormick divulges his own strategy for the upcoming race that will make or break his championship: "All I can do is get ready to win," he says. "I have a couple weeks to train physically and prepare myself mentally for this very important race. I am only a few points behind Jordan now, so it will be interesting to see the outcome. But for now I want to secure the Round 7 win and hopefully someone else can be competitive enough with Jordan so that we will have enough of a points lead to take the championship."

Be sure to check out Shubenacadie on TSN and TSN HD. Round will be aired on Tuesday September 15 1:00pm - 2:00pm and again on Saturday September 19 from 4:00am - 5:00am. Round 7 will be held at the Shannonville Motorsport Park in Shannonville, Ontario from September 3-6th.

Team Press Release: McCORMICK BREAKS TRACK RECORD AT MOSPORT

This weekend's doubleheader was packed with surprise as Team Suzuki Blackfoot Picotte Racing headed out to Mosport International Raceway in Ontario, Canada. "Mosport is always an excellent event," says Team Manager Pascal Picotte. "It's probably the biggest event in Canadian Superbike racing because we are close to Toronto and all the manufactures are nearby."

With the pressure on, the team went into the weekend with the intent to win. In Friday's qualifying, Brett McCormick set a new track record, which had previously been set by McCormick's mentor Pascal Picotte. Saturday brought more satisfying results when McCormick started the day with a clean pass on the last lap that won the Pro Sport Bike race.

Later on Saturday, in the Superbike race, the team was not so lucky. McCormick felt he had a bad start, entering the first corner in fourth position. After a few laps, he read on his pit board that he'd been docked five seconds for a jump-start. Earlier on, while the riders were waiting on the start line, McCormick had accidently bumped his clutch and moved a couple inches before they were given the green light. Consequently, McCormick realized he would need to win the race by five seconds in order to make up the docked time.

Over the next few laps, McCormick picked off one rider at a time, making his way from fifth to first place by the eighth lap. Once he passed Szoke and got comfortable in first, McCormick was ready to push for the five second lead, but rain started falling on parts of the track and McCormick decided it was safer to hang back and take a third place finish rather than risk crashing. Race officials shut down the race at lap twelve due to the worsening rainstorm. As a result, McCormick was the first man across the finish line, but took a third place finish. After the race, the team was docked another five positions for blowing over the horsepower maximum on the dynamometer resulting in an 8th place finish.

Despite the challenges faced in the Superbike race, the team felt confident going into Round 5. They realized that the day's penalties had moved them from first to second in the championship, but with the remaining races, they were ready to start closing the gap and taking back the lead. Sunday started out with a fifth place finish in the Pro Sport Bike race:

"In the 600, we were in 2nd place when Brett made a small mistake," states Picotte. "I had advised him to stay tucked back on the bike as far as he could and in the process, he accidently hit the kill switch so he pulled off thinking that he blew up the bike. Right away we had him back out on the track and he weaved through the racers and finished fifth. We are pretty lucky. Even if the bike had blown up, that wouldn't be so bad. However if he had been injured, that would be awful. So at the end of the day, it really wasn't too bad at all."

Sunday's Round 5 Superbike race kept everyone on their toes as the riders diced positions for the entire race. "The top four guys were right on top of each other and it seemed like the lead changed every lap throughout the race," says Picotte. "It was a very suspenseful race and we were happy to take 2nd." After holding the lead at different times throughout the race, McCormick was third behind Jordan Szoke and Kevin Lacombe in the final laps. Then, McCormick pulled his classic move and passed Lacombe in the last turn of the last lap securing second place right behind Szoke.

"Jordan is always there for a fight. He is an awesome racer," says McCormick about his championship rival who has reigned as Canadian Superbike 5-time national champion. "But you know what? Our Suzuki bikes keep getting better and I keep improving and as a result things on the track are getting a lot easier for me. I'm doing my homework with the training and the mental prep and I know it's going to come together. If this is the worst luck we have all year, then I'm okay with that. We can get back up and win some races. Plus, a little action is good for the series."

Picotte feels positive about the rest of the season as he discloses: "The results were there this weekend, we just had the two small mistakes - Saturday in Superbike and in 600 on Sunday and they definitely hurt us as far as points go towards the championship, but as far as the team goes, we have something really great. And as far as performance, Brett has done a fantastic job. We lost some points, but it's certainly not the end of the world. We have two more Rounds to go, four more races, so we'll do the best we can and keep the pressure on and hopefully we'll win them all."

Pat Chambers Team Owner from Blackfoot Racing explained that "it was a challenging weekend. Overall the team did a great job. There were some hiccups along the way but Brett continues to show us that he's got great speed and we know that we have what it takes to win championships. The team is still gelling and working very well together so now we are going to buckle down and get ready for the next round."

CALGARY, Alta. (June 28) - Saskatoon's Brett McCormick passed Jordan Szoke two turns from the finish to win Sunday's third round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship, presented by Turple Bros. Ltd. and Suzuki, at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park.

The rider of the Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000 nipped inside Szoke's Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R and then held him off in the run to the finish line to claim his second straight win by just 0.080 secs.

The Brantford, Ont. racer started from pole position and led the first 21 laps of the 22-lap race around the 3.2km (2.0-mile) track with McCormick never more than a second or two behind.

"It was a pretty long race and I just wanted to study him and not show him anything," said McCormick, who extended his lead in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship to 11 points over Szoke, 157-146. "On the last lap he left the door open and I had some room so I took a chance."

The bikes of Szoke and McCormick made contact as McCormick made his inside pass.

"I'm a little annoyed right now," said the three-time defending Parts Canada Superbike Champion. "The bike was perfect. I'm mad at myself for leaving the door open. I know rubbing is racing but I consider that a little much."

Kevin Lacombe finished third on the Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF Yamaha YZF-R1 after a race-long battle with fellow Yamaha rider Andrew Nelson. The Granby, Que. racer was third at the end of the opening lap but accidentally hit his kill switch at the start of the second and dropped back to fourth behind Alex Welsh.

Lacombe got back ahead of Welsh's Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R on lap four only to come under pressure from Nelson, who grabbed third place on lap 14. But Nelson got a pair of false neutrals at the start of lap 17 and Lacombe got back ahead, holding off Nelson?s Nelson Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 by just 0.602 secs.

"It was a really intense race," Lacombe said. "I was getting really exhausted at the end but I put my head down and pulled it out."

Despite having to settle for fourth place in the race Nelson maintained third in the Parts Canada Superbike standings with 96 points.

"I had the pace and the bike to finish third," said the Kars, Ont. rider, who worked his way up from sixth on the opening lap. "I guess it was not meant to be, unfortunately. It's a lot of work for fourth place."

Local ace Clint McBain of Cochrane, Alta., who won this race last year, battled serious front suspension problems to finish fifth on his Suzuki Dealers / Acceleration Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Maple Ridge, B.C.'s Steve Crevier placed sixth on the Deeley Racing Powered By Buell / Buell 1125R, passing Uxbridge, Ont.'s Welsh five laps from the finish.

Despite incurring a five-second jump start penalty Banff, Alta.'s Peter Holzinger took eighth place behind Welsh on his Zinger Racing / Toloco Fibreworks Suzuki GSX-R1000 and 14-year-old Royce McLean of Coaldale, Alta. was the top rookie finisher in ninth on his Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF Yamaha YZF-R6.

Calgary's Dave Stokowski completed the top 10 aboard the Blackfoot / Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R after holding off McLean for the first half of the race and another Calgary rider, Michael Zottmann was 11th on the Mountain Toys Racing / Majik X Suzuki GSX-R1000 after suffering a late race fall while running eighth.

In other action at Race City, Szoke held off McCormick in another close battle for the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike win. Szoke led every lap on his Kawasaki ZX-6R with McCormick right behind aboard his Suzuki GSX-R600. The Saskatoon rider also made a move for the lead in the second last corner, only this time he slid wide after getting ahead and Szoke was able to repass him and win by 0.085 secs.

"I thought he might try me going into there but I knew he would have to go pretty deep," said Szoke, who was on his back-up bike after crashing his primary mount in morning practice. "The bike was phenomenal. It isn't really much of a 'B' bike."

With the win Szoke regained the points lead over McCormick, 155-146.

Szoke's team-mate Welsh was third on another Kawasaki ZX-6R for his best career Pro finish and McLean finished fourth on a Yamaha YZF-R6 after passing Crevier's Buell 1125R two laps from the end.

Cochrane, Alta.'s Cody Matechuk led all 14 laps to win the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike race by 13.105 secs. on his Suzuki Dealers / Acceleration Racing Suzuki GSX-R600.

West Kelowna, B.C.'s Marcel Irnie took second on his Irnie Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R after a race-long battle with the A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R of Longueuil, Que.'s Sebastien Tremblay, who placed third.

After his second win in three races Matechuk now leads Tremblay by 21 points in the Amateur Sport Bike standings, 155-134.

Steven Nickerson of Hamilton, Ont. also led all the way to win the 10-lap Honda CBR125R Challenge event at Race City. Warman, Sask.'s Bodhi Edie placed second, 6.280 secs. behind and Karl Robitaille of Ste-Julie, Que. took third.

Edie now trails Nickerson by 11 points in the standings, 156-145 heading into Monday's second half of a doubleheader for the class, which will be held at the Varsity Chrysler Speed Park adjacent to Race City.

Raphael Archambault of St-Colomban, Que. won his first Suzuki SV650 National Cup round by 16.272 secs. over Philippe Masse of St-Dominique, Que. Polesitter Jeremie Hade Precourt of Granby, Que. took third.

Archambault picked up the Tirox Won Bigtime Award for enjoying the largest margin of victory of the weekend and took over the class points lead.

Action from Race City will be shown on TSN HD and TSN on Tuesday, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern and repeated on Saturday, July 25 at 4:00 a.m. Eastern. The races will also appear in Quebec on RDS. Please check local listings for dates and times.

The Parts Canada Superbike Championship continues with its midseason doubleheader at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont. July 17-19.

Series Press Release: DOUBLE VICTORY FOR McCORMICK AT ICAR

From a release issued by Parts Canada Superbike Championship Series: McCormick Takes ICAR Superbike

MIRABEL, Que. (June 14) - Saskatoon's Brett McCormick completed a dominant weekend at Circuit ICAR with victory in Sunday's second round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship, presented by Moto Journal.

The 17-year-old started from pole and led 15 of the 16 laps around the 2.81km (1.74-mile) 14-turn circuit on his Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing / Suzuki GSX-R1000 to score his second career national Superbike win and take over the lead of the Parts Canada Superbike series standings.

Three-time defending series champion and opening round winner Jordan Szoke of Brantford, Ont. placed second on his Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX-10R, 2.218 secs. behind McCormick. Andrew Nelson of Kars, Ont. was third riding the Nelson Racing / Yamaha YZF-R1.

"This is a huge win for me. I'm really at a loss for words," said McCormick, who earned his first Superbike national win at last year's season finale. "It's not like last year at the last round, where Jordan was riding for a championship. He gave me a fight today."

McCormick was third off the start behind the Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF / Yamaha YZF-R1 of Kevin Lacombe and Szoke. But Lacombe crashed on lap two and McCormick was able to get around Szoke at the same time.

Szoke managed to close back in on the Suzuki in the closing stages of the race but was delayed while working through lapped traffic on the penultimate lap.

"I settled into a nice pace and I didn't have to work too hard for a while," said McCormick, who set the race's fastest lap at one minute, 25.337 seconds on lap three. "My front tire was going off a bit near the end but the bike was set-up well enough so I could get around it."

With his perfect weekend of claiming pole position, leading the most laps and earning the race win McCormick leads the Parts Canada Superbike Championship standings for the first time in his career with 104 points to the 98 of Szoke.

"I made a mistake when Kevin crashed," Szoke said. "I did a double downshift and went into first gear instead of second and Brett was by both of us. I got a gift from Kevin but I couldn't take advantage."

"We've won a lot of championships though and we're not done yet."

Nelson moved into third when Lacombe fell and stayed there the rest of the way to score his first career national Superbike podium.

"By lap five my tires went off and I was just trying to be careful the rest of the way," the 26-year-old said. "But I'm stoked with my first podium and hopefully it's the first of many more."

Six-time Canadian Superbike champion Steve Crevier of Maple Ridge, B.C. finished fourth on his Deeley Racing Powered By Buell / Buell 1125R after passing Clint McBain just two laps from the finish. McBain, from Cochrane, Alta., settled for fifth on his Suzuki Dealers / Acceleration Racing / Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Sixth placed went to the second of the Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX-10Rs of Uxbridge, Ont.'s Alex Welsh, who held off a race-long challenge from 14-year-old Royce McLean of Coaldale, Alta. McLean was the top finishing rookie on his Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF / Yamaha YZF-R6.

Karl Daigle had been part of this battle but the Granby, Que. racer dropped back in the closing stages to an eighth place finish aboard the A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Ste-Adele, Que.'s Jean-Francois Cyr was ninth on the CyrRacing / Honda CBR600RR after passing the Blackfoot / Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX-10R of Calgary's Dave Stokowski two laps from the end. Stokowski rounded out the top 10 finishers.

In other action at Circuit ICAR, McCormick led every lap of the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike race on his Suzuki GSX-R600 to claim his first career victory in that class and take over the points lead from Szoke, who finished second on his Kawasaki ZX-6R, 3.061 secs. behind.

Nelson again completed the podium on his Yamaha YZF-R6.

"It was a pretty awesome race and the team's been working really hard," said McCormick, who now has 101 points to Szoke's 99. "I busted out a bit of a gap and was able to put down some fast laps early."

Lacombe was fourth on his Yamaha YZF-R6 and Welsh took fifth aboard a Kawasaki ZX-6R despite a late charge from Crevier and McLean.

Longueuil, Que.'s Sebastien Tremblay outduelled opening round victor Cody Matechuk to win the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike race. Riding the A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R Tremblay took the lead from Matechuk (Suzuki Dealers / Acceleration Racing / Suzuki GSX-R600) on lap seven of the 14-lap race and held on to beat the Cochrane, Alta. rider by just 0.342 secs.

Jeffrey Dion of Granby, Que. completed the podium aboard his Robitaille Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Rob Busby of Brantford, Ont. earned his second straight Suzuki SV650 National Cup win of the season, beating St-Colomban, Que.'s Raphael Archambault by 7.651 secs. Jeremie Hade Precourt of Granby, Que. completed the podium.

Warman, Sask.'s Bodhi Edie won the Honda CBR125R Challenge race by 10.634 secs. over Hamilton, Ont. racer Steven Nickerson. Edie earned the Tirox Won Big Time Award for enjoying the largest winning margin of the day. Pickering, Ont.'s Ryan Roche placed third.

Natalie-Catherine Provost of Laval, Que. won the Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup race on her Honda CBR600RR.

Action from Circuit ICAR will be shown on TSN HD and TSN on Tuesday, July 7 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern and repeated on Friday, July 10 at 4:00 a.m. Eastern. The races will also be televised on RDS. Check local listings for dates and times.

Series Press Release: Szoke Wins Superbike Thriller

From a release issued by Parts Canada Superbike Championship Series

CALABOGIE, Ont. (May 24) Brantford, Ont.'s Jordan Szoke edged Saskatoon racer Brett McCormick for the win in a dramatic season opener for the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Calabogie Motorsports Park on Sunday.

Riding his Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX-10R the three-time defending national champion snatched the lead from McCormick on the final lap and held off the Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Motorsports / Suzuki GSX-R1000 by just 0.133 seconds for his second straight Calabogie Superbike win.

"What a great, fun race that was," said Szoke, who became the career leader in national Superbike victories with 27. "We passed each other a whole bunch of times on that last lap. I had to ride hard but I guess all my conditioning paid off."

McCormick had started from pole and the 17-year-old led 14 laps. But he was never more than a couple of seconds clear of Szoke, who started to close back up in the second half of the race.

"It's disappointing to lead the whole race and then lose it on the last lap," the runner-up finisher said. "I was managing the lead a little bit but the bike felt good."

In an equally exciting duel Kevin Lacombe of Granby, Que. took third on the Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF / Yamaha YZF-R1 with a last corner pass of the Suzuki Dealers Acceleration Racing / Suzuki GSX-R1000 of Cochrane, Alta.'s Clint McBain.

Lacombe snagged the lead off the start of the 16-lap race around Calabogie's 5.05km (3.05-mile) road course but by lap two McCormick was in front and Szoke had moved into second place by lap three.

McCormick set the fastest lap of the race on his third tour, a time of two minutes, 1.399 seconds, as he opened up a slight lead but Szoke started closing back up as the laps wound down.

The two were nose-to-tail to start the final lap. Szoke tried a pass down the backstraight but McCormick was able to nip back by. Szoke regained the lead however and then stayed in front the rest of the way, despite McCormick being able to get alongside on a few occasions.

"He rode a strong race and I tried to keep him honest," said Szoke, who leaves Calabogie with a five-point lead over McCormick in the Parts Canada Superbike point standings, 53-48. "I just tried to keep a consistent pace. I might have taken things a bit too easy at the start."

Lacombe was in tire trouble from the early part of the race and slipped into the clutches of McBain by half distance. The Albertan got ahead on lap 12 but Lacombe was able to regain the final podium spot after the two traded positions on the final lap.

"I took a big guess on which rear tire to use and it was not the right guess," Lacombe admitted. "I knew I was having problems and I backed off. But on the final lap I wanted to try everything to get him."

Frank Trombino of Kleinburg, Ont. was fifth on his GoLo Racing / Suzuki GSX-R750 after he passed both Alex Welsh and Steve Crevier on the final lap. Welsh took sixth aboard the Canadian Kawasaki Motors / Kawasaki ZX-10R and Crevier had to settle for seventh on the Deeley Racing Powered By Buell / Buell 1125R after running fifth for most of the race.

After started from the front row on his Nelson Racing / Yamaha YZF-R1 local hope Andrew Nelson of Kars, Ont. could only manage an eighth place finish.

Karl Daigle of Granby, Que. placed ninth on the A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R and Mississauga, Ont.'s Matt McBride (Riders Choice / Suzuki GSX-R1000) held off the Team Toyota Yamaha / OTSFF / Yamaha YZF-R6 of top rookie Royce McLean of Coaldale, Alta. for the last spot in the top 10.

In other action at Calabogie Motorsports Park, Szoke opened his defense of the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike title with a convincing win on his factory Kawasaki ZX-6R. Despite incurring a five-second penalty for jumping the start Szoke was still able to open enough distance to beat McCormick's Suzuki GSX-R600 by 3.326 secs. on corrected time.

"I figured out right away that I had to get a big lead," Szoke said. "I just put my head down and pushed hard. But it was a comfortable pace for me and I didn't have any moments."

McCormick took second from the Yamaha YZF-R6 of Lacombe on the final lap as the pair had a race-long duel.

Welsh was fourth on his Kawasaki ZX-6R and Nelson got his Yamaha in front of the Buell 1125R of Crevier on the final lap for fifth.

Cochrane, Alta.'s Cody Matechuk won on his debut in the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike class. The Suzuki Dealers Acceleration Racing / Suzuki GSX-R600 rider took the lead three laps from the end of the 10-lap race and managed to open up a 5.661-sec. advantage by the finish.

Belleville, Ont.'s Efram Ellenbogen was second on the BnE Racing / Yamaha YZF-R6 after the rider who took second on the road, Sebastien Tremblay was docked five seconds for a jump start. Tremblay was classified third on the A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R.

Brantford, Ont.'s Rob Busby led all the way to win the Suzuki SV650 National Cup race. Jody Greening of Burlington, Ont. was second and St-Dominique, Que.'s Philippe Masse took third.

Steven Nickerson of Hamilton, Ont. won a last lap shootout to take the Honda CBR125R Challenge season opener at Calabogie. Bodhi Edie of Warman, Sask. placed second and Ste-Julie, Que.'s Karl Robitaille was third.

Richmond, Ont.'s Vicki Schouten won the Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup event on a Kawasaki ZX-6R.

The Parts Canada Superbike Championship continues at Circuit ICAR near Montreal June 12-14.

This weekend's races will be shown on TSN and TSN HD premiering Tuesday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern and repeated Saturday, June 20 at 4:00 a.m. Eastern. The event will also be televised on RDS. Check local listings for dates and times.

Parts Canada Superbike Championsip
2008

Shannonville Motorsport Park
Shannonville ON
Parts Canada Superbike Championship
Round 7 August 28-31

"The Kid" is hot tonight!

After rebounding from injury with a solid Round 5&6 in Nova Scotia, Brett was closer to 100% healthy for the final at Canada's "birthplace of champions", Shannonville ON. A racetrack with a deep history that has been good to Brett in recent years. With this in mind, Brett was looking to take to top spot on the podium & garner his 1st win in the premier class.

Pro 600 Qualifying

The track was wet on Friday & Saturday morning, so Saturday's qualifying session was the 1st chance for Brett & Mark Orchard to get the bike set-up right for the 600. With a limited number of laps the boys were able to come up with a decent bike set-up & qualified 6th putting them in the middle of the 2nd row for the start. Not exactly where they are used to being this season. . . however, they were confident Brett could get the job done in the race.

Superbike Pre-Qualifying & Superpole

Once again, for Superbike, Brett had limited quality practice because of a wet track. During the pre-qualifying for superpole Brett & Jeremy Sharrard were able to come up with a good direction for bike set-up and ended up 4th fastest going into the 1 lap dash.
The 10 minute warm-up session was a sign of things to come as Brett was the fastest rider & the only rider to dip into the 1 minute & 4 second range. Setting off 7th of the 10 riders, Brett laid down a lap of 1:04.656 which was only 2/100's off the lap record. None of the last 3 riders were able to challenge Brett's time leaving him on pole position for the 2nd race in a row. Brett & Jeremy have really clicked & shown what a great rider/mechanic team can accomplish.

Pro 600 Race

Going into the Pro 600 race Brett knew he had his work cut out for him starting from the 6th position. When the lights went green Brett put his head down & went to work. A great launch propelled him into 4th place off the start. After passing into the 3rd position on the 2nd lap, Brett settled into 3rd place behind Kevin Lacombe & leader Jordan Szoke. The 3 riders set a fast pace & steadily pulled away from the rest of the pack setting up a 3-rider battle to the finish. Jordan & Kevin traded the lead back & forth while Brett stuck right behind them in 3rd. On the last 2 laps Brett made a charge & passed Kevin for 2nd while finishing just 2/10's behind Jordan. An awesome result after so-so qualifying goes to show what a great team Brett & Mark make!

Superbike Race

Starting from pole position Brett got a perfect launch coming out of turn 1 with the holeshot. With Kevin Lacombe & Chris Peris in tow the three riders set a torrid pace pulling away from the rest of the pack at more than a second a lap. By lap 8 Chris was dropping off slightly & Kevin made his move taking the lead from Brett. Kevin would lead the next 10 laps with Brett right on his heels. With 2 laps to go Brett made his move back into the lead & was able to hold on to the lead to the finish edging Kevin by 0.113 for his 1st professional Superbike win! Although it's been reported as Brett's 1st professional win, he actually won the Calgary round of Canadian Thunder in '06, which is a Pro/Am class.

As the Parts Canada Superbike Championship comes to a close, Brett's parents would like to add how proud they are of not just Brett's accomplishments, but the way in which he has handled himself while achieving these results.
It was a tough season of ups & downs with injuries that were more debilitating than Brett let on.
Not once did Brett complain about his lot, but instead took it all in stride & dug deep & did the best he could.
Grant & Michele would also like to thank all the friends & family for their positive support throughout the year.
As well, we would like to acknowledge Mike Crompton, Jeremy Sharrard, Mark Orchard, Brian Bevan, Harald Surian, Richard Winter, Peter Kassaris & team manager Jeff Comello for all their hard work & support.

SHUBIE DOUBLE HEADER!

SHUBIESTOCK '08!

Rounds 5 & 6 of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship were run at everybody's favorite race track Atlantic Motorsport Park at Shubenacadie NS. The track is tight, technical & very challenging but that is not why everybody loves it . . . they love it because of the outstanding atmosphere. Every year the race at Shubie draws very large & enthusiastic crowds & 2008 was no different. Decent weather & great racing did not disappoint the large crowds.

Qualifying

Photo courtesy Rob O'Brien&Matthew Grant / cdn superbike.com
Pro600 practice & qualifying went very well for Brett. Never out of the top 3 or 4 Brett ended up qualifying on the front row with the 4th fastest time which was half second under the previous lap record. In fact, the Pro600 class was so competitive in Shubie that the top 6 qualifiers were all under the previous lap record.

Superbike qualifying saw Brett achieve a 1st for him & that was winning the 'Superpole' qualifying. . . a great accomplishment considering that Shubie is probably the toughest track anywhere to ride a Superbike on. It is also important to be on the front row for the start as the tight technical nature of the track makes passing very difficult.

The 1st race of the double header weekend would be Pro600 run in sunny conditions. Brett did not get the best of starts from front row & came around the 1st lap in 5th place. As the 18 lap race progressed Brett held his 5th place position at the back of the lead pack. Approximately half way through attrition took its toll & 2 of the riders in front of Brett crashed out of the race leaving Brett with 3rd place, his 1st podium of the weekend. Congratulations to Brett's teammate & now 3-time consecutive 600 champion Jordan Szoke. Jordan sewed up the Pro600 Championship with a solid 2nd place in the 1st race.

Race Two

Sunday morning & Brett was ready to improve on his 3rd place finish. With a better start Brett came around in 3rd place & proceeded to match the leaders lap after lap while they pulled a significant gap on the rest of the field. On lap 7 the leader crashed out of the race leaving it a 2-way battle between Chris Peris & Brett. Brett stayed close to Chris, but on this day, Chris was the faster man & rode to a well deserved win with Brett in 2nd & 3rd place quite a distance back.

The 1st Superbike race of the double header weekend saw Brett start from pole position, but unfortunately, he blew turn 1 & came around in the 5th position. Brett's tire choice proved to be the wrong one as he was having trouble finding grip & therefore was also having trouble getting around the 4th place rider. By lap 8 Brett's tire started 'coming in' & he was able to make the pass for 4th, but unfortunately the lead group had already pulled a large gap leaving Brett to settle for a 4th place finish.

Brett was quite disappointed with his 4th place in Saturday's Superbike race & really felt that he could finish closer to the front. Well he proved this with a solid 2nd place finish in the race. Clint McBain got the holeshot with Kevin Lacombe in 2nd & Brett in 3rd. Kevin was riding with a broken wrist suffered earlier in the weekend, therefore was unable to match Clint's pace. It took Brett a lap to get around Kevin in to 2nd & by that time McBain had a 3 second lead. Brett tried to reel Clint in & the gap seesawed back & forth for most of the race staying at about 3 seconds. Clint would take the win followed by Brett, while the rest of the field were a long ways back. An awesome result for Brett while still nursing his injuries from Mosport.

Brett should be 100% healthy for the final round in Shannonville & will be looking to put his Kawasaki's on the top of the box!

Round 3&4 July 17-20

Following an average showing at the last round in Calgary, Brett was going in to Mosport eying the top of the podium. With a 3-week break in between rounds Brett's 1st couple of sessions were the opposite of Calgary where he started the weekend at the top of the timesheets. Mosport is the fastest track in Canada as well as one of the fastest in the world. So wrapping your head around averaging over 100 mph takes a couple of sessions.

Qualifying

As Brett got more practice sessions under his belt he steadily was getting faster and was in the top 3 for times in both 600 & Superbike. Pro600 qualifying proved to be very fast with Suzuki's Chris Peris claiming pole with a new lap record. Yamaha's Kevin Lacombe was a close 2nd 1/10 of a second behind with Brett in 3rd only a couple-of- hundredths-of-a-second behind Kevin. For Superbike "Superpole" pre-qualifying Brett was 3rd fastest meaning he would go 3rd last in the top-ten final qualifying. Brett's lap for Superpole qualifying was a bit of a disappointment for him, but still was good enough for 5th place and a second row start.

Pro 600 Race

Saturday morning warm-up for the races continued Brett's trend of getting faster every session and he was 2nd fastest in Pro600 and was fastest in Superbike practice actually setting the fastest lap of the entire weekend. He was ready to have some great races and fight at the front.

The 1st race of the weekend was Pro600 Saturday afternoon. From his front row start, Brett didn't get a great launch & came around turn 1 in 4th place. With his teammate Jordan Szoke leading 2nd place Chris Peris and 3rd place Andrew Nelson Brett was wasting no time getting to the front and passed all 3 riders by turn 8 and was hoping to put his head down and pull away. As we all know, things don't always go as expected, and shortly after taking the lead, Brett lost the front coming on to the start/finish straight and ended up hitting, at about 60mph, the straw bales and tires that were propped up against a cement wall for protection. Brett was actually unhurt from the impact and would have been fine but for the fact that his bike followed him in to the wall and ended up hitting him in his lower back/rib area. The race was red-flagged and Brett was brought in to the infirmary where it was diagnosed that his injuries could be severe and therefore he was transported to the local hospital ending his day. Upon further examination it was determined that Brett had suffered a bruised lung as well as bruised ribs so not only was his day over but his entire race weekend.

The HJC helmet and Alpinestars protective gear that Brett wears definitely did their job! Brett can't say enough about how confident his Parts Canada gear makes him feel. Like we said, if his bike wouldn't have landed on him, he would have been fine and able to restart the race.

Brett would like to thank his mechanics Jeremy Sharrard and Mark Orchard for doing an awesome job of setting up his bikes for the win. A riders team are so important and don't get enough credit for how hard they work every race weekend.

It has been a week and Brett is healing well and should be healthy enough to participate at the next round in Shubenacadie NS.

Round 2 June 26-29

After a successful Round 1 in the 2008 Parts Canada Superbike Series the Canadian Kawasaki team headed to Calgary looking to keep the momentum going. Brett was really looking forward to racing in front of many friends and family as Calgary is the closest race to Saskatoon so Brett considers it his "home" round.

With this in mind Brett had a very good first day, setting the pace for all the racers and going faster than he did all weekend last year. This momentum did not turn into great results however, as Brett ran into some issues during the actual races. That, as they say, is racing! Things don't always go the way you want, no matter how hard you work at it but the lesson to not give in when things are tough was not lost on "The Kid".

A 4th in the Pro 600 race kept Brett in 2nd overall behind his team-mate and series leader Jordan Szoke who won the Pro 600 race. A 5th place finish in the Superbike race was a good result as Brett battled with three riders over the final podium spot.

A huge thanks to all the friends and family that made the 600KM trek from Saskatoon! This kind of support is what makes being from Saskatchewan so special. Thanks also to the AMRA and its members who continue to be great supporters of Brett's racing. To know where you are going you can't forget where you're from.

Round 1 May 22-25

The 1st round of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship fell upon the scenic track in Calagobie ON located about an hour west of Ottawa. It looks to be an exciting year with most of the series regulars back for '08, as well as a couple of new faces including world class racer Chris Peris from Calgary AB. The weather started off a little cool, but by race day it was sunny, warm and perfect racing conditions.

Qualifying

Practice and qualifying went well for Brett. A 3rd place qualifying effort in Pro600 followed by a strong 4th in the Superbike Superpole qualifying meant that Brett would start on the front row for both races.

Pro 600 Race

The first race of the day was the Yoshimura Pro 600 SportBike class. From his front row grid position, Brett got a great 2nd place start behind Chris Peris with his teammate Jordan Szoke right behind in 3rd. These three riders proved to be the strongest on their 600's as they steadily pulled a gap on the rest of the field for the first 10 laps of the race. Jordan got by both Brett and Chris to take the lead and on the 11th lap the riders all set their fastest lap of the race. Unfortunately for Chris he crashed out of 2nd place on the 12th lap leaving it a battle of the two Kawasaki ZX6RR's to the finish. Brett was determined to give Jordan a battle to the end & did just that, however, coming up 1/1000 of a second short at the finish line. It was a great 1st race result for the entire Canadian Kawasaki Team. Congratulations to Jordan for a great win. Brett was pumped to set the fastest lap of the race on lap 11. Mark Orchard is Brett's new mechanic for the 600 program this year. He is not only a great mechanic but an awesome guy and he and Brett appear to have a great chemistry that bodes well for the rest of the season.

Superbike Race

The feature Superbike race saw a clean start in to turn one with Brett 5th tucked in behind Suzuki's Chris Peris. As the first few laps unfolded it was clear that the lead group of three riders were setting a pace that would see them pull a gap on the second group which consisted of Chris Peris, Brett and Suzuki rider Matt McBride. It looked like a battle for 4th was the best Brett would be able to do on this day, until lap 12 when one of the front three retired with an engine problem leaving Brett, Chris and Matt in a battle for 3rd. On lap 13 Brett was in the 3rd position coming through the fastest corner on the track at about 180km/hr when Matt McBride slammed into Brett from behind knocking him off the track in to a huge crash. Fortunately, Brett was not seriously hurt, although the bike was damaged severely and Brett was unable to remount to finish the race. A disappointing outcome for sure, but these things happen in racing and Matt was nice enough to come and apologize to Brett after the race. With the championships only being a 7-race series, scoring no points in the first round puts any chance at a championship just about out of reach. All Brett can do is go out and try to win races and see what happens. Jeremy Sharrard (Brett's Superbike mechanic) and Brett make a great team so there is no doubt that this will be their goal. Congratulations to Brett's teammate Jordan Szoke and Canadian Kawasaki on his convincing win in the Superbike race . . . well done!

Parts Canada Superbike Championsip
2007

Year in Review
2007

The '07 Canadian Superbike series is now in the books, so I'd like to take the chance to reflect and give everyone a little insight on how things went for Brett in his rookie pro season.

After an amazing year as an amateur on the national scene, Brett was able to land a seat on the Canadian Kawasaki factory team along side Jordan Szoke. A dizzying accomplishment by any standard, but that is a whole story of its own! The key to the deal was the fact that Jeff Comello and Kawasaki were willing to give Brett a shot at the Superbike (1000cc). Although the majority of people scoffed at this, those who know Brett understood. The seed was planted the year before when Darren James of Ruthless Racing Deeley-Harley Davidson Buell also took a chance and gave Brett a ride on his team in Canadian Thunder. Canadian Thunder is a pro-am class full of established pros such as Darren himself. Brett proved his ability to adapt to different machines and this I think was a big part of the opportunities awarded Brett in '07.

When the time came for Brett's debut at the winter tests in Jennings Florida there was much anticipation and the pressure that comes along with expectations. Now if you know Brett you know he is very level headed. He went about the task of a new team-new bikes-new track etc with a 'workman like' attitude not trying to 'impress' but to 'learn'. By the time we left Florida Brett had already proved Jeff Comello's intuitiveness. Over the three day test Brett impressed by not only being competitive with his times but by not crashing or being out of control.

The first race in Mont-Tremblant went very well. Brett was very nervous, though he hid it well! Once again Brett was level headed and took it all in stride. Rather than being intimidated Brett was respectful of the awesome talent in Canada this year and used every opportunity to learn all he could. The biggest obstacles to overcome were learning bike set-up and his physical conditioning. Luckily the Kawasaki crew are a great bunch and Brett hit it off well with his mechanics from the get-go. As they spent more time together Brett and the mechanics (Jeremy Sherrard, Mark Douglas and Ilya Spanovich) learned what each other needed and by round six in Nova Scotia they had the set-up pretty much dialled in. That momentum carried into the last round in Shannonville where they almost had pole in Superbike. All the while Brett was training his butt off getting stronger and stronger. At the tests in Jennings Florida Brett admitted he would need to get stronger to be able to compete at that level. It's one thing to go fast for a lap, it's another to do it for 22 in a row! Round six in Nova Scotia was a turning point in that Brett started the first lap in tenth and finished fifth. He was able to do the fast laps right to the end, so his competitiveness at the last round where he was third in 600 and second in Superbike really were not a surprise to Brett or the crew. The other area he improved was qualifying, which in a deep field of talent is very important.

At each round points are accumulated toward the HJC Pro Rookie of the Year award, with the rider who has the most points at the end of the season garnering the $2500 award. An additional $2500 is given if the rider wears an HJC helmet. Brett was the top rookie at each and every round, and locked up the title with one round to go. Brett wears HJC helmets so it was a great to receive the $5k!

Enough can't be said about the whole Canadian Kawasaki team. Team manager Jeff Comello has been great about not putting undue pressure on Brett and letting him learn and develop this year. Crew chief Mike Crompton has also been awesome. His experience and technical expertise is second-to-none and he has really earned Brett's respect in a big way. As have all the mechanics, who are not only expert techs but all around great guys who know when it's time to work and when it's time to have fun! Having Jordan Szoke as a teammate was also good for Brett, Jordan's a great guy as well as a super talented rider, and he sure was a big help with advice etc whenever Brett needed it. They got along well and Brett was very happy for Jordan in winning back-to-back championships.

Brett's also lucky to be sponsored by Parts Canada. The HJC Helmets and Alpinestars leathers, boots, gloves and back protectors are the best...Period. The same can be said about Shauna Szewczuk from Parts Canada. She takes care of Brett and is awesome...Period.

As fall turns to winter and we go from the mx track to the pond for a little ice racing Brett and his family would like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement throughout the season. The Calgary round was very special as 40-50 friends and family from Saskatchewan made the trek to Race City to cheer Brett on! This meant the world to us!

So we'll see everyone soon, and don't forget to take in the Motorcycle Shows in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. There's gonna be bar banging action as Brett attempts to defend his indoor mini road racing championship!

Cheers,
McCormick Racing

- 2007 Parts Canada Superbike Championship Television Broadcast Schedule "SUPERBIKES TO AIR SEPTEMBER 11th 2007"
There was much anticipation for the Canadian Kawasaki Team heading in to the last round of the Parts Canada Superbike Series in Shannonville ON September long weekend. Jordan Szoke had the points lead in both Pro600 & Superbike & was looking to clinch those titles for a 2nd consecutive year. Brett was looking to continue his momentum from Shubenacadie where he produced a couple of his best rides to date. The weather was cooperating with high temperatures & sunny skies so a large crowd was on hand to enjoy the weekend of great racing.

Qualifying

As we alluded to in the last round in Nova Scotia, Brett had race pace & the conditioning to put himself at the front, he just needed to qualify better to give him a chance to be on the box. Brett's training regiment with Chad Pruden at the "Human Performance Center" University of Saskatchewan has really proved to be an important ingredient in Brett's steady progress this season. The progress really came to a front in practice & qualifying where Brett was at or near the front of every session.

Qualifying for Pro600 saw Brett 3/10's of a second off the pole & record lap set by Steve Crevier. This would see Brett with a solid 2nd row start.

Superbike qualifying was Brett's best effort of the season seeing him actually hold the lap record for a brief time until teammate Jordan Szoke pipped Brett's lap record time by 5/100's giving Jordan the pole & Brett a front row 2nd place qualifying time.

Pro 600 Race

Brett & Jordan both got the starts they needed in the Pro600 race. Jordan got the holeshot with Steve Crevier, Brett, Frank Trombino, Kevin Lacombe, Matt McBride & Andrew Nelson in tow. Crevier took the lead in the early laps with Jordan a close 2nd and Brett right behind in 3rd. Brett's 3rd place would be challenged by McBride, Trombino & in the final laps Kevin Lacombe. Brett was able to fend off the attacks & secured a solid 3rd place finish, his 2nd Pro600 podium of the season. Jordan would pass Crevier for the win & the Championship, his 2nd 600 title in as many years.

Congratulations to Jordan & the entire Canadian Kawasaki Race Team.

Superbike Race

Brett's awesome qualifying position meant that he was expecting to get a great start & challenge for the win in Superbike. Brett made it hard on himself by getting a lousy start & coming around the 1st lap in 6th position, passing into 5th position at the end of the 1st lap. While Steve Crevier pulled away in the lead, Brett put his head down & started to work his way to the front. It was obvious Brett was on a mission & was not going to be denied at least a podium spot as he passed Szoke, McBride & Kevin Lacombe on his way into 2nd position. Lacombe was not going down without a fight & stuck to the back of Brett passing him back on the 2nd last lap. Brett accepted the challenge & passed Lacombe back on the last lap & held it across the line to finish 2nd for his best result of the season.

Teammate Jordan Szoke brought his Kawasaki home in 4th place securing another Championship, his 2nd Superbike Championship in as many years. . . an awesome achievement. Congratulations Jordan!

Round 6 was held at the scenic and challenging race track in Shubenacadie NS, just a little north of Halifax. Sunny skies and very warm temps for all three days meant great racing and the usual large turnout of enthusiastic spectators. The people of Nova Scotia are some of the friendliest you'll find anywhere, so it's always a pleasure to race out there.

Qualifying

After some decent practice sessions Brett's qualifying went as per usual, with respectable times but not that one crazy fast lap to put him up front. Brett's times in both Pro 600 and Superbike would see him in 8th position, setting up a 3rd row start. At a track like Shubie this is not where you want to be, as passing is very difficult. Sunday morning warm-up went very well, with Brett 2nd in 600 and first in Superbike so a good start is all he needed to run at the front.

Pro 600 Race

Brett got a decent start and came around in 7th place on the first lap. The top 3 set a fast pace as the next 4 tried not to lose ground. Brett was looking to make his way forward when a crash brought out the red flag about half way through. This turned out to be a bonus as Brett would start from the 2nd row on the restart. Sure enough, the restart tightened the front pack, and Brett came around in 5th place. With only 4 laps to do something Brett hounded Kevin Lacombe in 4th and made the pass into turn one with 2 laps remaining. He then closed on Frank Trombino for 3rd but ran out of time, settling for a very good 4th place result, a major improvement on an 8th place start!

Superbike Race

From his 3rd row start Brett did not get the launch he wanted, and came around in 8th place on the first lap. Knowing 22 laps was going to be long enough to make up some ground Brett went to work on first Frank Trombino, then Andrew Nelson as he made some awesome passes to move up to 6th. Then on the back of Francis Martin's Factory Suzuki Brett could see Francis was struggling with a front tire issue and his resulting slowing pace was distancing the front 4. Brett made his move and got around the Suzuki just past half way and was the fastest rider on the track the next 3 laps but his times only a tenth or two faster meant closing the 3 or 4 second gap on 4th place would be tough! For the remainder of the race Brett matched the lead group times and brought his ZX-10R home in 5th place.

His Dad thought it was his best ride of the year and with a better qualifying position thinks Brett will be able to challenge for the win! All Brett's hard work training has really started to pay off and he goes into the last round at Shannonville looking for his 1st Pro win.

MOSPORT DOUBLE HEADER!

Rounds 4 & 5 saw a mixed bag of weather at the beautiful Mosport raceway, Canada's most famous track located just east of Toronto in the beautiful country near Bowmanville ON. Wet and dry races tested the mettle of the Canadian Kawasaki crew as they showed why they are #1 doing an amazing job for Jordan and Brett.

Qualifying

Qualifying went reasonably well for Brett, with a 6th in Pro 600 and 7th in Superbike. Brett admits his weak point is learning to "hang it out" for a hot lap, as he is not a crasher, so his qualifying times are usually what he can do for the whole race. . . not a bad thing, but at a lot of the tracks being in the top 4 to get on the front row can make or break your result. Mosport would see Brett on the second row which is not that bad given the first corner.

Pro 600 Races

Race One

The first Pro 600 race would be run in the rain. The track at Mosport is notoriously slick when wet and this weekend would be no different. Brett got a good start and was in the lead pack of 5 or 6 riders. Positions were swapped until Jordan crashed bringing out a red flag. Jordan was ok and able to make the restart from the back of the grid, as is the rule if you are the rider causing the red flag stoppage. On the restart Brett was again in the lead battle and Jordan quickly diced through the pack into 4th! Now it was Brett's turn, and he crashed in exactly the same spot as Jordan! Again a red flag stoppage, this time the crew working feverously ZX-6R for the restart. This time Jordan started from the front row and battled the remaining 5 laps to win the race! Brett started form the back and managed to carefully pick his way to an excellent 8th place result. Not bad considering hitting the hay bales and wall at 130 kms only minutes earlier!

Race Two

Sunday's Pro 600 race was run on a dry track in sunny conditions. Brett got a great start from the second row and again battled in the lead group. Brett was in third position on the last lap and was pushing hard to set up the leaders to draft by on the back straight when he crashed by lowsiding in turn 3! He quickly picked his bike up and salvaged a 12th place finish. The good news was Brett was not hurt bad, the bad news was he slipped back considerably in the points with only 2 rounds left to make it up.

Superbike Races

Race One

Race one of two on the weekend for Superbike was actually postponed until Sunday because of the unsafe condition of the wet track on Saturday. Brett got another good start from the second row and was in the lead group of 6 for the first couple of laps. The front three pulled a one second gap on Brett and Kevin Lacombe, who proceeded to put on a great show as they traded the 4th position back and forth several times. With 2 laps to go Brett put the hammer down and pulled a small gap on Kevin, which was important on the last lap because of lapped riders. Brett crossed the line with a very well deserved 4th, but a false start penalty was assessed to Clint McBain who was across the line in second. This meant Brett was actually 3rd! First Superbike podium in only his fourth race! Extraordinary, especially considering being only 15 yrs old. To say his family and friends are proud is an understatement!

Race Two

Unfortunately race two was to see the rain return. Brett got a 12th place start and played it very careful. After 2 crashes already this weekend he did not want to risk another! Once comfortable in his first ride in the rain on a Superbike, Brett picked his way to an excellent 6th place finish. Awesome result, and it kept Brett solidly in 5th place in Superbike points going into the last two rounds.

in Canada!

Following round one in Mont-Tremblant QC the series travelled west to Calgary for the only western rounds, so in a way it was Brett's "home" rounds. Nearly fifty friends and family made the 7 hour trek from Saskatoon to see Brett race. Brett really appreciated all the support!

The weather on Friday was very unstable with the threat of rain, so Superbike qualifying was moved up to morning practice. Even with limited track time to get a good setup, the top riders were flying, and Jordan Szoke, Brett's team-mate shattered his existing lap record taking pole position for the race. Brett was in fifth for much of qualifying, getting shuffled back to seventh in the last few minutes. This would see Brett staring from the second row, an improvement over his third row starts in the previous round. Because the weather left the track in a dangerous state after Superbike qualifying Pro 600 qualifying would be cancelled and points position would be used to set the starting grid for the 600 race. Brett was sixth in the first round, putting him on the second row for the 600 race as well.

The first race of the weekend was the Pro 600 class Saturday afternoon. From the second row Brett came through the first lap in second place right behind his teammate and points leader Jordan Szoke. In tow were four other riders, and the six rider battle would see them pull away from the rest of the field as the lead pack battled and exchanged positions in one of the best races seen in years! As the 18 lap race wound down Jordan managed to take the lead while Brett had his hands full in fifth place. On the last lap Brett put his head down and passed Francis Martin and Steve Crevier to capture third place at the line and the first podium of his young professional career! The Kawasaki crew was ecstatic with first and third place finishes. At the age of 15, Brett is the youngest rider to ever podium in the pro class in Canada!

The Superbike feature Saturday afternoon would also see some great battles and race action. Brett would get a decent start coming around the first lap in fourth. While team-mate Szoke was following in fifth. Brett made a couple of awesome passes to move into second place with Jordan following through in third. Jordan then quickly passed Brett and set out to close a large gap on the leader securing an impressive come from behind win. Brett would battle with three other riders eventually finishing fourth, an unbelievable feat for only his second race on a superbike. Once again the Kawasaki crew did an incredible job and were very happy with a first and fourth in superbike!

Sunday's Pro 600 race was another great five rider battle. Unfortunately Brett was struggling a bit getting a good drive onto the long Calgary straight, and it was all he could do to hang on the back of the lead group. Jordan ended up with a solid second while Brett settled for a hard earned fourth. Great results, and the Kawasaki Canada team left Calgary with Jordan having a commanding lead in the overall points, and Brett one point out of third overall in fourth.

Sunday afternoon's feature superbike race was another barn burner. Brett and Jordan both got decent starts inside the top five. Jordan was in third fighting with Francis Martin, Kevin Lacombe and leader Clint McBain while Brett battled with Steve Crevier for fifth. Francis Martin led for a while, then Clint again, with Jordan getting by Francis as well to move into second. Brett and Steve were having their own battle a couple of seconds back of the leaders. Then on a thrilling last lap McBain crashed in the carousel handing the win to Jordan. Kevin Lacombe was a close second with Francis Martin behind him in third. McBain's crash meant Brett and Steve were fighting over fourth instead of fifth. After exchanging the position no less than six times over the course of the race, Brett saved his best for last and passed Steve at the end of the back straight on the last lap. Steve then stuck it under Brett in turn three but ran a little wide through turn four. Brett pounced, going back under Steve and getting a better drive through the chicane. A lapped rider made it interesting through the last few corners but Brett was undaunted and beat Steve to the line by a couple of tenths!

The Canadian Kawasaki team leaves Calgary with Jordan having another commanding lead in the Superbike class. He also is now tied for the most wins in Canadian Superbike history with 23! Congratulations Jordan! Brett sits in fourth in the standings, only 14 points out of second after the first three rounds. The team heads into Mosport looking to solidify their spot as the best team in Canadian road racing.

Season Opener a Great Start!
Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant QC
Parts Canada Superbike Championship
Round 1 May 31-June 3

The site of the season opener for the Canadian Superbike Championships was the scenic course at Mont-Tremblant Quebec. Set in amongst the ski resorts in the mountains a couple of hours northwest of Montreal, the track is one of the most beautiful in the world! Fast, flowing and technical with a lot of elevation change, it is a favorite of the riders.

It is also the site of Brett's first ever National win, so it holds special meaning for him. Last year Brett took the AM600 win there at the ripe old age of 14yrs, as well as finishing second in the Canadian Thunder class on the Ruthless Racing/Deeley H-D Buell. So it's safe to say Brett likes the place!

This year would mark a new beginning, with Brett now racing in the Pro class as a full factory rider for Canadian Kawasaki Motors. Brett's teammate is non other than Jordan Szoke, a Canadian road racing legend and holder of 3 Canadian Superbike Championships! Jordan is the defending champion for both the Pro 600 and Superbike classes. Brett was added to the team to also race both the 600 and Superbike (1000) classes along side Jordan to defend the titles.

The weekend starts with one practice session on each bike Thursday afternoon, followed by morning and afternoon sessions on Friday. Saturday sees a morning warm-up with timed qualifying on Saturday afternoon to set the starting grid positions for the Sunday races.

Getting the set-up on his 600 was proving to be a little tough, and though Brett's times were respectable, he felt he could go a little faster if he could get his bike working better. His qualifying position of 8th was decent for first time out, and would see him starting from the third row.

Brett's Superbike was working very well, and he was very comfortable on it, placing times in the top 6 in practice. Unfortunately qualifying was cancelled due to bad track conditions. A bike had a mechanical issue and left oil on the track. It was cleaned up, but then a short rainfall left the track wet, meaning the oil spots would be very dangerous. The decision was made to use the Saturday morning practice times to determine the grid positions for the race. In that practice session Brett only did 4 laps on his 1000 as he used the session to practice on his 600 to try and get it dialed in. Brett's lap times on his 1000 were about 2 seconds off what he could really do, so he was left to settle for 9th as a starting position, putting him in the third row. Jordan was showing why he's the champ, getting pole position in both and breaking the lap record on the 600!

Brett was very nervous sitting on the grid for the first Pro start of his career, but he new once the green light went on his racing instincts would kick in! Although he's a rookie here and only 15 yrs old, he's been racing motorcycles since he was 4 yrs old, so the ability and racing instinct are very strong. His Mom and Dad watching on had every confidence in him.

When the light went green, sure enough Brett got a great launch, and came around in 5th place with the lead group. Brett felt he had the speed to hang with the leaders, but started slipping back about a second a lap. Tire choice is critical, and Brett went with the harder of the two choices hoping later in the race his tires would be in better shape than the others who had gone with the softer compound. This did not play out though as the leaders maintained their pace to the end of the 12 lap race. So Brett had a great battle for 5th with Andrew Nelson and Kevin Lacombe. Lacombe ended up crashing just past the half way mark, and Nelson took the 5th spot and kept it to the finish, leaving Brett to finish 6th in his Pro race debut! ! ! A great result and his teammate Szoke won the race so it was Kawi in 1st and 6th.

The nerves were not as bad for the Superbike race, and Brett was ready to battle! From 9th on the grid Brett got a decent start and maintained 9th through the first turn. He soon passed three riders to move into 7th, and inherited 6th when one of the riders blew an engine. Staying with the lead group, Brett found himself dicing with legendary Steve Crevier, 6-time Superbike champion. Steve got by Brett, but Brett stuck to him hoping to make a late race pass for 5th. Lapped riders came into play though, and Brett got baulked in a couple of spots losing too much ground to Steve and settling for 6th place in the 18 lap race. Once again Jordan Szoke won the race convincingly, giving the team a 1st and 6th place result. An awesome result for Brett, this being only his third time on a superbike. Brett was very happy with his performance, and learned a ton. To say he is a quick learner is an understatement, and he feels he learned enough to take to the next rounds in Calgary to be a real factor there!

"Brett Jordan & Canadian Kawasaki"

One of the biggest news items in recent weeks was the signing of young Brett McCormick to the factory Kawasaki squad. The "Rookie Sensation", as the sign in the Kawasaki display refers to the 15-year-old, is in Toronto signing autographs for the fans alongside his new teammate, returning double champion Jordan Szoke.

Brett McCormick (r) might be a rookie Pro for 2007, but his professionalism already shines through as he settles in to his new home on the Canadian Kawasaki factory Superbike team alongside three-time Canadian champ Szoke.

"Canadian Kawasaki Confirms Szoke and McCormick"

The Canadian Kawasaki factory road racing team will be comprised of current Champion Jordan Szoke and rising star Brett McCormick for the 2007 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.

The reigning Canadian Pro National Champion in both Superbike and Hindle Pro 600 Sport Bike classes, Branford, ON., based Szoke will lead the squad for a second consecutive season. The 27 year old is a three time Canadian Superbike Feature class national Champ, and stands second on the all time win list with a 20 victory total, not far behind the all time success record of 22. "With the proven Kawasaki ZX-10R and our brand new ZX-6R, I obviously have the equipment I need to get the job done again," explained Szoke. "We have a strong team, and I'm really looking forward to defending my two number one plates."

Szoke's ongoing relationship with Kawasaki puts the team in a great position to repeat their dominating performance of the 2006 season. The combination of Szoke and Kawasaki in Superbike earned a record-tying five victories in a row last season, guaranteeing the premier Parts Canada Superbike Championship crown and the coveted Canada Cup trophy.

In Pro 600 Sport Bike, Szoke again took five of a possible seven series successes, clinching the 600 series title and giving Jordan an amazing ten victories during the 2006 campaign. For 15 year old McCormick of Saskatoon, SK., 2007 shapes up as a dream year as the teenager moves to the Pro ranks with a factory ride in both the premier Pro classes, as Champion Szoke's team-mate. "I'm really excited about my rookie Pro season, and looking forward to working with Jordan and the whole crew," confirmed the always-positive McCormick. "They proved that they have the best combination, and I want to repay their confidence with some great results. There's lots to learn, and I know we'll have a really entertaining effort."

After moving to full sized bikes late in 2005, McCormick undertook the National Series for the first time in 2006, competing in the Pro/AM Thunder class for Twins and the Amateur 600 Sport Bike Championship. Brett "The Kid" immediately established himself as a front runner in both classes with multiple wins, podiums and lap records in both classes and was the center of considerable speculation regarding his future motorcycle racing plans. "It's an amazing chance to put together such a dynamic, exciting team for 2007," explains Team Manager Jeff Comello from Canadian Kawasaki's head offices in Toronto, ON. "Jordan is a proven and popular Champion and Brett is perhaps the most exciting up and comer our series has seen in recent years. These two make for a great combination, and we think that 2007 will be even more exciting for our Kawasaki fans than this year."

"Even though Brett is young, he showed maturity both on and off the track in his first National tour last season," continued Comello. "We see him as a star of the future and we think the Kawasaki team is the right place for him to develop his potential.

McCormick replaces popular American star Tom Kipp, who will not be taking part in National competition action. Canadian Kawasaki Motors wishes to thank Tom for all of his hard work and acknowledge the successes we have enjoyed over the past few seasons.
